Here’s a clip of us singing an old gospel tune from our road trip up north this past summer…
Seduction of Spring: The evolution of a song
by Chloe Tietjen
A poet friend of mine Liz Parker invited me to take part in a collaborative poetry experiment. She passed on a line written by another friend, and I was to write a poem including that line.
“She’s March’s lover but April’s martyr..”
I wrote a poem…
She’s March’s lover, but April’s martyr
a saint of Spring’s notorious folly
I watch her writhe
in the seductions of pollen,
drunk, petals ripped open
well acquainted with her own extremes,
and as she screams
I am the ground
I feel wet, cold and brown.
…
Our worship has possessed her
a tropical obsession
bends her limber petals.
I want to sting her into ecstasy,
love her into silence
so I can pray for her in peace
then transformed it into a song…
Seduction of Spring
We’re saints of Spring’s notorious folly
writhing in wafts of pollen
more fallen than Fall, with petals ripped open
for the littlest fingers to crawl in
We’re virile violets with stamen inflamed
flirting through fluttering butterflies
We worship the sun, revere the rain
and we dream by the light of the fireflies
(Chorus) Hear our song of honey love
be converted by the bees
feel yourself enlightened by
our grandfather the trees
let yourself free, let yourself breathe
hear yourself sing
the seduction of spring
We spiral dance with our sisters the vines
we’re the fruit that follows the flower
drunk even before we turn into wine
in every drop there is power
In indigo showers we are the ground
feeling wet warm and brown
Perpetual towers, spring up from the mist
we are the blithe and we are the bliss
(bridge) kissing every, kissing every
kissing every drip drop
kissing every, kissing every
kissing every drip drop
(repeat chorus)
Here’s our version of a Willie Nelson tune, If You Can’t Undo the Wrong Undo the Right.
T Sisters and Melody Walker sing Auld Lang Sine. We’re looking forward to playing some more shows with Melody Walker and her musical partner Jacob Groupman in the New Year!
‘Ptarmigans’ is a song written by Erika and Chloe Tietjen and sung by the T Sisters on their Jingletown rooftop.
We never did get around to making business cards before leaving for the Northwest adventure. Luckily I had brought a rubber eraser and carved a stamp on a lovely sunny day in Mendocino while visiting our buddies, the Blushin’ Roulettes.
One side of the cards has the handmade rubber stamp, the other side has a unique watercolor design which I worked on at a beautiful river and camp spot on the way up to Oregon.
To the Coast:
Inspired and refreshed, we headed for Mendocino to visit our buddies Angie and Cas. On our way we had to stop in Booneville for our first of many wheels of cheese. Rachel swears she saw the legendary “Beer”.
We wound our way through the woods till we got to Old Mill Farm, the majestic domicile of Angie and Cas. All that night, we feasted on pig and cider as if we were dining in the great halls of Beowulf. The next day we were ready to jam, blackberry and Americana style. Angie taught us a song of hers, the words of which we’d previously been ‘improvising’, called On the Banks.
First Stop: Sebastopol/Santa Rosa
Our first stop was Sebastopol to celebrate the upcoming marriage of our beautiful buddy Bria. We were reunited with our sister band, Picasso, and followed them to Santa Rosa for some long overdue collaboration.
Feeling exhausted after the recording session, we treated ourselves to a night on the town. Get it gurlz!
